Urban Medley is a transparent and sustainable business and we list below the ethical and social impacts we support. When you shop with us you are a part of this mission and play a crucial role in helping communities to develop and reduce the footprints we leave behind for a healthier Planet Earth.

Artisan Empowerment

We work with designers committed to the cause of sustainability and ethical production. Our designers work with communities of artisans thus helping them to be economically independent while developing and promoting their ancient arts. When you buy our products, you are helping communities to live with dignity, educate their children and lead a healthier life. Our products are handmade, its slow production with respect to the environment. You buy a unique piece not a mass-produced item.

Sustainable Materials

We exclusively use sustainable and organic materials in our products, including peace silk, organic cotton, ethically sourced wool, burlap, and responsibly sourced leather. Each material is selected to minimize environmental impact and ensure ethical sourcing.

Animal friendly production

Our raw materials are produced through cruelty-free methods, ensuring no harm comes to animals in the process. We prioritize the welfare of all living beings throughout our supply chain.

Water Use

We use minimal water during processing.  This not only conserves valuable water resources but also prevents harmful chemicals from entering the ecosystem.

Eco-Friendly Dyes

When dyes are necessary, we choose natural, AZO-free, or eco-friendly options. These dyes are safer for both the environment and the people who produce and wear our products.

Minimizing Pollution

Our commitment to the environment extends to reducing pollution at every stage of production. Since most of our products are 100% handmade, we achieve minimal to zero pollution levels. This ensures that local water bodies remain unpolluted and soil toxicity is kept at bay.

Ethical Standards

We monitor our suppliers and require an undertaking from them that workers are paid a fair living wage and work in a safe environment. We are mindful of the conditions under which our products are manufactured. All our suppliers conform to the values we stand for: fair pay, family support as needed, stipulated working hours, mandatory paid leave, and safe, comfortable working conditions. When purchasing directly from artisans we pay a fair price for products and raw materials.

Eco friendly packaging

Our dust bags for your products are crafted by The Yellow Bag, based in Madurai, India. The Yellow Bag Foundation empowers women from marginalized backgrounds who have had to abandon their education. By providing dignified work opportunities, the foundation helps these women achieve financial independence. Many of the women working at The Yellow Bag have never had a job before. Through their work, they gain respect, confidence, and independence, with some even breaking free from abusive relationships. To date, these women have hand-stitched an impressive 1 million bags, effectively replacing 50 million single-use plastic bags. The bags are made from organic cotton and eco-friendly materials.

Additionally, our shipping boxes and wrapping papers are made from recycled materials. We minimize the use of plastic as much as possible to reduce our environmental impact.

Reforestation- Plant a tree

Even though we stand committed to sell products friendly to our planet Earth we know we can’t be 100% sustainable. As an online business we are shipping goods constantly an action which is not the friendliest to nature. To offset these and other similar activities we plant a tree for every order placed. We are working with Tree Nation, slowly and steadily building our own forest for the tribal in India. So when you shop at Urban Medley you know that you have made a positive impact. A tree is planted.

Tree Nation made it even possible to compensate 100% our website’s CO2 emissions. So as you browse the site a tree is planted to offset the CO2 emissions
